Kirby Smart and Georgia are hunting yet another top-ranked recruiting class after just missing out last cycle. The Bulldogs finished No. 2 in 2025 to SEC rival Texas, in a race that came down to the wire in the final days of the early signing period. Ultimately, the Longhorns prevailed with a few late additions — including beating out UGA for five-star defensive lineman Justus Terry.

Early on in the 2026 class, it has been USC that the ‘Dawgs are chasing, with the Trojans holding the No. 1 class in the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings for nearly all of the past few months. Georgia has been increasingly closing that gap, climbing into the top 10 in May and early June, and then catapulting up to No. 2 over the past few weeks.

On Monday though, they finally overtook the Trojans after the latest player rankings updates from Rivals arrived. Georgia’s team score — 93.209 — outpaces USC’s by just two-thousandths of a point, signifying what should be a ferocious battle until December.

The Bulldogs’ latest commitment, five-star tight end Kaiden Prothro, ultimately pushed Georgia ahead of USC, which holds a whopping 31 total commitments. Georgia, meanwhile, has 29. UGA’s class has a slightly higher average rating per commitment (90.83 to 90.73). The ‘Dawgs also hold an advantage when it comes to blue-chip commitments, landing 22 to the Trojans’ 21.

Both programs are well-ahead of Notre Dame and Texas A&M right now, the two schools who currently sit at No. 3 and No. 4 in the team rankings.
