Hoover (Ala.) High defensive lineman Tyson Bacon has committed to Miami.

The touted point-of-attack prospect chose the Hurricanes over the likes of Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 260-pound Bacon was on his official visit to Coral Gables this weekend.

“I’m very excited,” Bacon told On3.

Bacon becomes commit No. 13 for head coach Mario Cristobal and his program in the 2026 class and second of the day joining touted offensive lineman Canon Pickett.

“What made Miami the one for me was that family feeling,” Bacon said. “I always talked in all my interviews I’m looking for development and that family feeling and Miami had exactly that. You can’t go wrong being coached by Golden Jacket Jason Taylor and 10-year vet Damione Lewis.”

Bacon was a prospect Cristobal in particular was very excited about on the defensive line.

“How they sold me on it, how close the relationship was with Cristobal, how active he was with me, it’s almost like he knew me,” Bacon added.

Time spent at Miami over the weekend sealed the deal for the Hurricanes.

“It was an amazing, great visit,” Bacon said to CaneSport. “The main message I got was to come be part of the family.”

Defensive line remains a big priority for Miami moving forward

Now Bacon is in the fold. He becomes the first defensive line recruit to commit in the 2026 cycle. Moving forward the Hurricanes will continue to push for the likes of On3’s No. 1 ranked defensive lineman James JJ Johnson and the On3 Industry’s No. 5 edge Bryce Perry-Wright who were also both on their official visits this past weekend. In-state defensive end Freddie Wilson was back on campus this past weekend and had a great experience as well.

Two weekends ago Miami had five-star defensive lineman Lamar Brown and Top100 recruit Keshawn Stancil in for their officials and the Hurricanes remain in the mix for both of them.

The Hurricanes remain in the race to finish with the On3 Industry’s No. 1 ranked class.
