National Top 25 Rankings AFI (1)

We have a new No. 1 when it comes to the national high school football scene as last week’s upset win by Corona Centennial over previous top-ranked Mater Dei shook up the Top 25 rankings.

Bishop Gorman (Nev.) takes over the top spot, just ahead of No. 2 St. John Bosco (Calif.). With Mater Dei’s loss they free fall to No. 9 in our latest set of rankings.

This week brings new opportunities as a another slate of games is on deck this week as teams around the nation continue their quest for the all mythical national championship. Below are the top 25 high school football teams in the country, according to the Massey Ratings, as of Sept. 15.

1. Bishop Gorman (Nev.) (4-0)

Acknowledge your new No. 1 team in the land, the Bishop Gorman Gaels.

Following up a 35-14 win over Lone Peak (Utah), the Gaels welcomed the East St. Louis (Ill.) Flyers into Las Vegas and sent them packing with their second loss of the season. Bishop Gorman rolled to a 35-10 victory and made a statement that they’re the top team in the country.

The game many out West are most looking forward to is this Friday’s meeting between the Gaels and the No. 9 Mater Dei Monarchs (3-1). It should be an absolute doozy of a mtachup.

2. St. John Bosco (Calif.) (4-0)

After playing their toughest challenge of the season against  St. Frances Academy (Md.) in a 21-14 victory, St. John Bosco last week cruised by Junipero Serra, 42-0, at Panish Family Stadium .

Through the first couple of weeks, St. John Bosco only played two quarters against Manatee (Fla.), coming away with a 31-0 victory, the Braves returned home and routed Texas’ Eastwood 66-7.

The Braves stay put in this week’s football rankings are at the friendly confines of home once again this week as they on Hawaii’s top-ranked team, the St. Louis Crusaders.

3. Grayson (Ga.) (4-0)

The loss of quarterback Travis Burgess for the rest of the season is a massive blow, but don’t tell the Grayson Rams that it’s going to hold them back whatsoever. In their latest victory, Grayson crushed North Carolina’s Mallard Creek in a 63-13 win.

The Rams will have a little different look to them when they operate on offense moving forward, leaning on junior quarterback Deuce Smith to lead the way behind center. The Rams’ defense will need to step up as well.

Up next for the Rams is a road trip over to Grovetown (3-1).

4. Buford (Ga.) (4-0)

Are the Buford Wolves the prohibitive favorite to win Georgia’s Class 6A high school football classification? Last week was another indication that the Wolves might be the team to unseat Grayson (above) as they defeated a very good Douglas County squad, 34-26.

One of the top defensive front sevens in the Peach State resides in Buford, as they feature four-star edge rushers Bryce Perry-Wright (Texas A&M) and Dre Quinn (Clemson) along with four-star safety Tyriq Green (Georgia). Through four games, the defense has only yielded 74 points and has shown they can play with the best of ‘em.

Buford this week takes on winless Discovery before taking a bye week.

5. North Crowley (Texas) (3-0)

The defending Class 6A Div. I state champions have played three games and all of them have been relatively close to date.

The Panthers opened up the 2025 campaign with a 22-18 win over Lancaster continued the winning ways with a 36-27 victory against DeSoto. Last week, North Crowley narrowly got by Guyer with a 28-27 victory. North Crowley seems to have figured out an answer for its quarterback situation, as DeMarcus Harris has stepped in and played admirably, helping guide the offense the last couple of games.

Its a quick turnaround for North Crowley this week as they play host to Rockwall on Thursday night before going on the road against Mansfield Legacy on Sep. 26.

6. Corner Canyon (Utah) (5-0)

No team inside of this Top 10 has played as much football as Corner Canyon has this season. When looking closer at the Chargers, there’s not many programs as well traveled, either.

A victory that really stands out recently for Corner Canyon that speaks to how well this group is playing is when they took on one of Arizona’s top teams in Liberty and rolled to a 45-14 win.

Texas A&M commit Helaman Cusaga has been locked in behind center, throwing for 1,411 yards and 14 touchdowns and no interceptions through five games.

7. Duncanville Panthers (Texas) (2-0)

After plenty of time speculating on whether Duncanville is as good as last year’s team, the Panthers got to take the field and show everyone in the Lone Star State what they’ve got.

Duncanville faced a South Oak Cliff squad that upset North Shore just a couple weeks ago and the Panthers slipped away with a 35-28 victory.

Junior standout quarterback Maximus The Great Denson has looked very comfortable at the controls of the offense and should lead the Panthers to bundles of points and wins this fall.

Having a defense that can stuff just about anything right back in your face is a massive luxury. That’s exactly what Duncanville will be able to do to most opponents on Friday nights. Coming off the edges are a pair of four-stars in Kevin Ford and Landon Barnes that combined for 28.5 tackles for loss and 12 sacks in 2024.

The Panthers are coming off a bye week and return to the field this Friday night against Waxahachie.

8. Southlake Carroll (Texas) (3-0)

Re-entering the Top 10 of the national high school football rankings are the Southlake Carroll Dragons after they routed Byron Nelson in a 52-3 decision.

There’s little question that Southlake Carroll (3-0) might be playing the best football of the season behind the play of their high-octane offense. Leading the way is Pittsburgh commit Angelo Renda and Ohio State pledge Brock Boyd.

Southlake Carroll has another test this week as they welcome into town an undefeated Trinity team.

9. Mater Dei (Calif.) (3-1)

For the first time since the 2015 season, Mater Dei has lost to a team not named St. John Bosco.

Mater Dei fell behind 33-7 heading into halftime and though they mustered up a furious comeback attempt, the Monarchs fell narrowly in a 43-36 loss to Corona Centennial, the very team they last lost to that was not the Braves.

The Monarchs fell eight spots in this week’s national high school football rankings and now are staring a gauntlet of road games ahead, with opponents like No. 1 Bishop Gorman (Nevada) and Orange Lutheran all on the slate coming up.

10. Carrollton (Ga.) (5-0)

If you’re looking for a surprise team that has continued to move up the national high school football rankings, look no further than the Carrollton Trojans.

Some thought that with Julian Lewis gone and some graduations, losses on the roster from the 2024 team that Carrollton might not be where they were last fall. Well, think again. The Trojans proved once more they are a national powerhouse in a 43-21 beatdown of Gainesville last week.
