Khary Adams was supposed to take an official visit to Oregon this weekend. A decision was supposed to be made closer to July. The official visit to Notre Dame last weekend changed those plans.

The No. 67 prospect in the On3 Industry Ranking out of Towson (Md.) Loyola Blakefield has committed to Marcus Freeman and the Irish over Michigan, Penn State and others.

“This whole process, Notre Dame has been that one school everyone was up against,” Adams told On3. “It was Notre Dame vs. Penn State, then Notre Dame vs. Oregon, so Notre Dame was up there for me from the beginning.

“When I got there on the official, seeing what Notre Dame can do for me outside of football, with the education, I knew it. Learning about the degree, spending time with coach Mickens and just being around the people, I made my mind up. It is a special place.”

Adams is a believer in the Notre Dame coaching staff

Last summer, at a camp, Mick Mickens offered Adams. The two have built a strong relationship since and he played a big role in this decision.

“I have great trust in him. He is laid back, and he has a cool personality, but he can tune up when he gets on the field. I want to be developed, and coach Mickens is one of the best in the country at that. He will play freshmen, he will push his guys and he is a coach I want to play for.”

The same can be said about coach Freeman. Adams likes his demeanor, his leadership and how he cares about the person underneath the pads first.

”Coach Freeman is a great person. He’s about he players. He wants what’s best for them. Everyone loves playing for him and he is doing big things at Notre Dame.”

Notre Dame is ‘different’ in Adams’ eyes

Adams is excited about who he will get to play for and about the place he will get to play at.

“I have been up to Notre Dame four times and I can’t even describe what it is like… There are no words for it – it’s just different. It is something you have never seen before. Notre Dame is special.”

The new commit used that word [special] a lot. That has his decision easy.

“The people, the campus, the players, the vibes and the feeling at Notre Dame make it great,” Adams said. “On the second day of my official visit, I made my decision. It was the feeling I had. Everyone is focused there, everyone wants to be there and it is a great place.”
