For most of the spring, Notre Dame was the trending school with five-star Detroit (Mich.) King quarterback Dante Moore.

The Fighting Irish hosted him in March for a multi-day unofficial visit, and he even received predictions in Notre Dame’s favor. But the tides are changing with the No. 8 prospect in the On3 Consensus.

Notre Dame is expected to receive a commitment tomorrow from coveted four-star 2024 quarterback CJ Carr, but according to the 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, it’s not Carr that has caused the Irish to fall back.

“I don’t think the optics now have Dante Moore and CJ Carr at the same school,” he said. “So while Notre Dame was the favorite for Dante Moore in the spring, I’m not feeling the Irish with him moving forward. … Just because a team was the favorite a few months ago doesn’t mean they’re going to get the signature on the Letter of Intent.

“… That doesn’t have anything to do with CJ Carr and what he’s going to do. [Moore] is a year older and coveted by every program in the country. A guy like that shouldn’t be looking in front of him or behind him. And I don’t think he is.”

As the Irish have reportedly fallen back, a handful of other schools remain very much in the mix. Texas A&M is set to host Moore later this month, and LSU, Miami, Oregon and home state Michigan are still pursuing him as well. Both the Tigers and Ducks have risen significantly in recent weeks in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
