Like Jordan Battle, Peyton Woodyard is a polished, big safety prospect who played at a power high school program. Battle was a bit taller and more athletic at the same stage.

Peyton Woodyard Scouting Summary
Charles Power
07/31/23

Polished, refined safety with well-rounded skills in coverage and run defense. Measured at a shade over 6-foot, 200 pounds prior to his senior season. Has a muscled, developed build. Stars on the back end for one of the nation's top high school programs. Lines up at safety and in the slot. Finished his junior season with 53 tackles, 8 pass breakups and one interception. Sees plays quickly and shows good instincts. Does a nice job recognizing route concepts. Refined footwork in coverage. Has adequate deep range. Shows some coordination in playing the ball. Assertive in working downhill as a run defender. Physical and lowers his shoulder on contact. Will come into college with a more advanced understanding of defenses given his experience at St. John Bosco. Does not have strong marks relative to verified athleticism. Long speed and athletic upside are not as noteworthy as many of his fellow blue-chip safety prospects. Works in a specialized role as a one-way player for a powerhouse high school program and does not have the breadth of playmaking experience of some other top safety prospects. Has the look of a high floor prospect who could be primed to contribute early in his career given his polish and refined game.

Personal Life

Peyton Woodyard is a winner on and off the field, according to Bellflower (California) St. John Bosco coach Jason Negro. “I think he’s a phenomenal human being,” Negro told DawgNation.com. “That’s what the first thing is. The character he is going to bring to a program. The leadership he is going to bring, and he is a championship-type caliber player. It makes me feel good that our guys are trying to pick the most elite programs in the country to go play college ball for and compete against. I think that’s what his mindset is.” Woodyard developed into a leader for Bosco, one of the elite high school programs in the country, during the 2021 season. In 12 games, he racked up 62 tackles and forced one fumble. He then stepped things up even more in his junior season with 53 tackles, seven pass deflections, one interception and playing some on offense and even on special teams. “He’s very versatile,” Negro said. “He can play all three downs on defense. First, second and third. He can play the single-high safety. He can play the two-high safety. He can play in the box. He’s physical. He can cover slots in the nickel. There’s a lot of versatility to his game.”
