MADISON, Wis. — On Thursday, redshirt freshman wide receiver Kyan Berry-Johnson became the first scholarship player to enter the transfer portal for Wisconsin. Berry-Johnson announced his decision on X. He wrote:

“First off, I’d like to thank Coach Luke Fickell, Coach Jordan Reid, and the entire Wisconsin staff for giving me the opportunity to play at the highest level. I want to thank God for his infinite grace and the blessings he continues to pour over my family and me.

“Thank you to all my friends and teammates at Wisconsin for the memories, lessons, and experiences in Madison. They’ll stay with me forever.

“After a lot of thought and prayer, I’ve decided to enter the transfer portal to continue my education and football career with three years of eligibility remaining.”

Berry-Johnson appeared in just one game for Wisconsin in 2025. As a true freshman, Berry-Johnson did see three games of action, but did not record any stats.

A Rivals four-star recruit in the class of 2024, Berry-Johnson chose UW over Syracuse, Cincinnati, Houston, and others. Berry-Johnson was tabbed as the nation’s No. 44 ranked wide receiver in his class.

The Badgers also lose senior wide receivers Vinny Anthony and Jayden Ballard following the 2025 season. UW is currently set to return sophomore Trech Kekahuna and junior Chris Brooks among their biggest contributors from last season.

The transfer portal will officially open on January 2.
