MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin head coach Luke Fickell addresses the media following Saturday’s 27-3 loss to Maryland. The Badgers came in 4-0 all-time against the Terrapins, including an average margin of victory of 22.5 points. Saturday not only marked the school’s first-ever loss to Maryland, but the first-ever loss in a Big Ten home opener by Fickell while at UW.

The Badgers were out-gained 323-296. Wisconsin also allowed six sacks and went an abysmal 3-of-17 on third down. Once again, UW could not run the football. The Terrapins held the Badgers to just 56 yards rushing on 41 carries.

Wisconsin tacked on a late touchdown with 28 seconds remaining. Senior quarterback Hunter Simmons found senior tight end Lance Mason for a 13-yard touchdown to close the scoring. However, it was too little, too late as Maryland scored the first 17 points before the Badgers responded with a field goal in the third quarter.

Following a bye week, Wisconsin will resume action on Oct. 4 at Michigan. A kickoff time has yet to be announced.
