Offensive Lineman Maddox Cochrane De-Commits from Wisconsin

Wisconsin offensive line commit Maddox Cochrane (Midlothian, Va./Benedictine) committed to Wisconsin in April. The three-star prospect backed down from that decision on Monday, announcing the intention to reopen his recruitment.
“First off, I want to sincerely thank the Wisconsin coaching staff for everything you’ve done for me throughout my recruitment,” Cochrane wrote on X. “Thank you coach Fickell, coach Blazek, and Coach Lambert for giving me the incredible opportunity to pursue my dream of playing football at the Division 1 level.
“This was a very difficult decision, but after careful consideration, I believe it is in my best interest to decommit from the University of Wisconsin. I have nothing but respect for the program, the players, and the entire coaching staff, and I truly appreciate all the support you’ve shown me.
“I wish you all the best moving forward.”
Cochrane originally chose Wisconsin over the likes of Virginia, Duke, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers. According to the Rivals Industry player rankings, Cochrane is the No. 66 ranked offensive tackle in the class of 2026.
Cochrane is the fourth de-commitment for Wisconsin this cycle. The Badgers have also lost edge rusher Carmelow Reed (Ole Miss), safety Zachary Taylor (TCU), and linebacker Aden Reeder (Michigan). Per sources, quarterback Jarin Mock (Bowling Green) and wide receiver Tayshon Bardo were mutual decisions.
The Badgers are back down to 14 commits in their 2026 recruiting class. That group includes just one offensive lineman, Benjamin Novak (Avon, Ind.).
Wisconsin’s 2026 recruiting class ranks No. 44 nationally, including 13th in the Big Ten Conference.
