Wisconsin WR Trech Kekahuna to Enter the Transfer Portal
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin has suffered its biggest loss of the off-season thus far. On Wednesday, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported that sophomore wide receiver Trech Kekahuna intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal.
Kekahuna entered the portal briefly last season, but opted to return to Madison following the hiring of offensive coordinator Jeff Grimes. Kekahuna was on his way out of Madison when Grimes called him and convinced him to stay for 2025.
“I was ready to go to whatever school I was going to,” Kekahuna told Badger Blitz. “He gave me a call and said he’d love to meet me and just talk ball. He wanted to show what his offense is.”
Kekahuna was also promised a bigger role in the offense. The production just never came throughout the season. Kekahuna did have a career-high 26 receptions, but for just 211 yards and no touchdowns. He also carried the ball 14 times for 129 yards and a score.
“Lightning in a bottle right there,” said first-year wide receivers coach Jordan Reid. “That’s the fun thing about a kid like that, different ways you can utilize that. The play speed that kid plays with, there’s no hesitation.
Kekahuna finished his Wisconsin career with 55 receptions for 614 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons.
Impact of Kekahuna Leaving Wisconsin
Impact Level: High
This was arguably Wisconsin’s best playmaker and fastest player. The Badgers, for a variety of reasons, could just never get the most out of Kekahuna. Now, UW must almost completely rebuild its wide receiver room.
Kekahuna is the third former Wisconsin wide receiver to enter the transfer portal, joining junior Joseph Griffin and redshirt freshman Kyan Berry-Johnson. The Badgers are currently slated to return junior Chris Brooks and true freshman Eugene Hilton among the notable contributors from last season.
