On Monday, 2026 3-star point guard/shooting guard Elias Obenyah committed to Stanford, announcing his decision on Instagram. Hailing from Salesian College Preparatory in Richmond, CA, Obenyah joins 4-star guard Slim Rogers and 4-star small forward Aziz Olajuwon has the third member of the Cardinal’s 2026 class. Olajuwon committed over the weekend.

As a result of these two recent commitments of Olajuwon and Obenyah, Stanford’s recruiting class is now ranked No. 9 in Rivals’ 2026 Industry Ranking Basketball Team Recruiting Rankings.

Obenyah took an official visit to Stanford last week after also taking official visits to Cal and San Diego State. He had a really positive experience on his official visit and after originally planning to announce his decision on Wednesday, he decided to make it official on Monday. I guess when you know, you know.

“During the visit I took notice to a very successful environment,” Obenyah said in a recent interview with CardinalSportsReport.com. “Everyone around the school, athlete or not, seem very focused on their goals. I really enjoyed observing student life on campus, as well as the basketball side of things.”

Something that really made an impact on Obenyah was the emphasis on player development that head coach Kyle Smith has. He wants to be developed by a coach that knows how to take his players to the next level and Smith clearly checked off that box for him.

“It’s evident that Coach Smith finds a way to always improve his teams, and as a result, winning,” Obenyah affirmed. “I appreciated that the coaching staff takes great measures to respect and contribute to the improvement of individual players, as well as the team.”

As far as what he’ll bring to The Farm, Obenyah should bring some versatility as a guard who can play both the point guard and shooting guard position. Listed at 6’5”, 180 pounds, he has great size for a point guard, so that’s something that should serve him well should he be called upon to run the offense.

“They appreciate my ability as a play maker,” Obenyah said. “My upside for them is that I am a point guard with size who can make plays greatly stemming from my ability to get into the paint and make decisions from there.”

All around, Elias Obenyah is a great pickup for Stanford. He brings flexibility and versatility to the backcourt, enhancing his ability to get on the court. It’ll be fun to see how his senior year at Salesian goes and what kind of impact he makes on The Farm once he arrives.
