2027 OF Jack Leeper is fulfilling a dream by committing to Stanford

Stanford baseball has a talented outfielder joining their 2027 class in Jack Leeper out of St. Francis High School in nearby Mountain View, California. Leeper opened up about why he chose Stanford and what he feels he can bring to the Cardinal at Sunken Diamond.
For Leeper, Stanford has always been his dream school. Growing up down the street in Menlo Park, he’s frequented Sunken Diamond many times as a fan. The fact that he’ll get the chance to do so as a player is surreal for him. He can’t wait to step onto the field for the first time and play under the coaching of David Esquer.
“Stanford is where I always wanted to be,” Leeper said. “Growing up just five minutes away and going to all the games my whole life, it was always my dream, so it was a no brainer for me…I love that Coach Esquer is a player’s coach and he cares about us off the field and he has had an enormous amount success.”
Leeper feels like he brings a nice blend of speed and power, which will enable him to be a long-term option at center field. He’s working on improving his arm strength given the defensive responsibilities that come with his position.
“I think I have a good speed-power combination that will help me stick in center field long term,” Leeper said. “I’m trying to keep getting bigger stronger and faster and mainly to improve my arm strength.”
Looking back on his days attending Sunken Diamond as a fan, Leeper enjoyed watching what Brock Jones did in the outfield. He loved how exciting Jones was and the presence that came with him on the field.
“I love watching Brock Jones when he was here,” Leeper said. “I feel like he had a presence in the box and he was electric and fun to watch.”
Touching more on Sunken Diamond, Leeper loves the ballpark and its overall vibe. He can’t wait to play in front of packed games that will have friends and family in the stands.
“I’m super excited. It’s going to be a lot of fun to play at home in front of family and friends,” Leeper said. “It’s a gorgeous ballpark and a great atmosphere when it gets packed. I loved being a part of the crowd during our three-year World Series run and hope to be a part of some big games there.”
Something else that Leeper is looking forward to is the chance to compete in the ACC. He knows how deep the league is and how many good teams there are. He is eager to show he can compete against the best of the best and play in what many feel is the top league in college baseball.
“I am super excited to compete against the highest level of competition in college baseball,” Leeper said. “It’s a great conference with lots of huge programs; the travel is tougher for us but that’s okay.”
Before he gets to Stanford, Leeper still has more high school baseball to play. He hopes to leave his mark on the Saint Francis program and help the Lancers win a CCS championship next season:
“I hope to bring a CCS championship to Saint Francis and hopefully be an All-American next year.”
When it’s all said and done, Jack Leeper is a great fit for the Stanford baseball program. He grew up down the street and is well aware of the tradition of excellence that has graced Sunken Diamond. It’ll be fun to see what he brings to the program and whether or not he’ll be able to help the Cardinal get back to playing College World Series level baseball.
