On Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, No. 5 Stanford women’s volleyball will welcome Georgia Tech to Maples Pavilion for Senior Day. The match will start at 3:00 PM PT on ACCNX. Stanford comes in at 25-4 overall and 16-2 in the ACC while Georgia Tech comes in at 16-11 overall and 11-7 in the ACC.

Last time out: Stanford got a Big Spike sweep over Cal in Berkeley, sweeping the Bears for the week.

RECAP: No. 5 Stanford Women’s Volleyball gets Big Spike sweep at Cal

On Georgia Tech: The Yellow Jackets are looking to boost their NCAA tournament resume as they have a winning record in the ACC. They end of their schedule is brutal as they have to play at Stanford the day before Thanksgiving and then on Saturday, November 29th, they have to play at home against No. 4 Pittsburgh.

In the previous meeting with Stanford earlier this season in Atlanta, Georgia Tech got swept 3-0 (25-21, 25-13, 25-14). So they know they got their work cut out for them now that they are on the road. Freshman outside hitter Noemi Despaigne had 10 kills while freshman outside hitter Lameen Mambu had 11 kills. Despaigne averages 2.64 kills per set while Mambu averages 2.98 kills per set. Freshman outside hitter Anna Fiedorowicz leads the way for them on average with her 3.12 kills per set. As a team, they have a good amount of weapons.

Keys to the match: For Stanford, it starts with maintaining a good offensive flow. Assuming Logan Tusher continues to be the setter, she needs keep up the good work on getting people the ball in the right places. She’s been fantastic filling in while Logan Parks and Taylor Yu are out. She needs to keep it up.

Secondly, Stanford needs to maintain quality service pressure. They average 1.74 service aces per set while their opponents average 0.65. If that trend continues in this match, Stanford should be fine.

Finally, Stanford needs to contain Fiedorowicz. She’s the top player on this Yellow Jackets team. If they can contain her and not allow her to have a big day, that would be huge.

Prediction: I gotta roll with Stanford to win in straight sets 3-0. They did it at Georgia Tech and I expect it to happen again. They also know they can’t slip up in this match if they want to find a way to get a top four overall seed in the NCAA tournament.
