On Tuesday at 7:00 PM PT on ACCNX, Stanford men’s basketball will welcome Louisiana to Maples Pavilion. Stanford comes in at 3-0 overall while Louisiana comes in at 1-3.
Last time out: Stanford defeated Montana State 77-68 last Wednesday. Stanford freshman point guard Ebuka Okorie led the way for the Cardinal with 21 points.
RECAP: Stanford Men’s Basketball edges Montana State at Maples
On Louisiana: The Ragin’ Cajuns are off to a rough 1-3 start. Their lone win is a 58-52 win over Southeastern Louisiana while they have losses to Ball State, Tulane, and McNeese State. They do have a couple of guards who can really score in Jamyron Keller (17.0 points) and Jaxon Olvera (16.0 points), so those are two guys to really watch out for. Olvera is shooting 40.9% from 3-point range and then guard Dorian Finister is right behind him shooting 38.5% from deep while averaging 11.8 points per game.
Last season, the Ragin’ Cajuns went 12-21 overall and 8-10 in the Sun Belt and made a coaching change at the end of the season as head coach Quannas White is in his first season at the helm. So it’s a new era for their program.
Keys to the game: The first thing Stanford needs to do is keep getting freshman point guard Ebuka Okorie rolling. He is leading the ACC with 25.3 points per game and is simply sensational. I don’t think Louisiana has any answer for him if he is on his game.
Secondly, Stanford needs to simply take good care of the ball. When you are playing a team you are better than, ball security is always crucial.
Finally, Stanford needs to avoid offensive lulls. That was an issue last time against Montana State. As long they stay in a good flow offensively and don’t allow Louisiana’s guards to heat up, they should be fine.
Prediction: I gotta roll with Stanford in this one. They’re at home and off to a strong start. 84-64 Cardinal.
