On Monday, October 20th, Stanford redshirt freshman running back Cole Tabb was named ACC Running Back of the Week and ACC Rookie of the Week. In Saturday’s 20-13 homecoming win over Florida State, Tabb rushed for 118 yards and one touchdown on 28 carries. He set career highs in both carries and rushing yards, becoming the first Stanford player outside of Micah Ford to rushed for over 100 yards in a game since Casey Filkins in 2022. Stanford is now off to a 3-0 start at home for the first time since 2018.

“Cole had a massive game, a hundred-some yards,” Stanford interim head coach Frank Reich said of Tabb’s performance. “Every time I looked up, the pylon kept moving and moving. He has the speed to get outside. Great vision, great balance.

“Really a great player. Very happy for him. A monster game. Made the tough yards. Made explosive plays. Just a trustworthy guy on your team. He had such a big game, such a big game.”

A real key moment in Saturday’s win was a 13 play, 94-yard drive in the 3rd quarter that was capped off by a one-yard rushing touchdown from Tabb. That gave Stanford a 20-10 lead following the extra point with 3:02 to go in the quarter. With Micah Ford out of the game, it was on Tabb to carry the load in the backfield and he did a great job of rising to the occasion.

“Yeah, obviously we were in a situation with the team, kind of looked at me in the run game,” Tabb said of that drive. “I was happy I was able to respond in the way we needed to. No play was perfect. I went out there and gave my best effort. EB made throws we needed to. Other guys on the field, Sam, C.J., people were clutch. I don’t know what’s more exciting than watching them play on that third quarter drive.”

Given how well he played and the magnitude of the victory over a Florida State team that was heavily favored, Tabb getting ACC Running Back of the Week and ACC Rookie of the Week is well deserved. It’ll be fun to see how he and the Cardinal do at No. 9 Miami this coming Saturday where they will once again be massive underdogs.
