In advance of Stanford’s road game at Virginia on Saturday, the Cardinal and Cavaliers have both released their injury reports and depth chart. Below are some thoughts and takeaways on what was released.

READ: Stanford Depth Chart

First off, outside linebacker Teva Tafiti is listed as probable, which indicates he should be good to go. He did make the trip to Virginia and is listed on the depth chart as co-starting outside linebacker/edge along with R.J. Cooper. Having Tafiti back is a huge plus for the pass rush and the defense. The question is how much will he play? Another edge rusher who is also listed as probable is Wilfredo Aybar. Thankfully, they have some depth at that spot, so they don’t have to overwork anybody.

Secondly, the offensive line is a bit depleted as Simione Pale is still out while Nick Fattig is also now out as well. Neither guy was expected to play this week, so their absence isn’t a surprise. Still, that makes things tougher on the offensive line to have those guys out. At the moment, the starting lineup (left to right) is Niki ProngosZak YamauchiFisher AndersonEmeka Ugorji, and Kahlil House. Anderson did a great job locking down the starting center spot last week and will look to anchor the middle once more. Overall, those guys did a great job last week. They’ll once again have to step up due to the injuries that have hit their unit.

Third, not having Jordan Washington at cornerback hurts. He’s a key veteran guy who has provided a lot of leadership. Washington being out once again means Brandon Nicholson and Che Ojarikre are going to have to step up their game and take some pressure off Collin Wright and Cam Richardson, who will be manning the opposite side.

Fourth, inside linebacker Jahsiah Galvan being out hurts. He was out last week as well, but it would be nice to have him back just for depth purposes and I do think he’s got a chance to make a real impact this season once he gets healthy. Like the edge rusher spot, plenty of depth at that inside linebacker spot with Matt Rose leading the way. Still, you want to be as healthy as you can at every spot.

Finally, injuries are a part of the game and while Stanford is missing some guys, they overall appear to be pretty healthy given this time of year. They’re fresh at running back and that’s always a position where you want to have multiple fresh bodies and then wide receiver, tight end, and quarterback are all pretty healthy. Gonna be interesting to see when wide receiver JonAnthony Hall is ready to go. He’s got a lot of upside, but once again, they got enough depth to be able to man things on that front until he’s got the green light.
