I’ll provide a full breakdown of the Cardinal’s entire schedule once we get closer to the start of the season, but for now, I’ll provide some quick thoughts. Below is the ACC portion of the schedule (home in bold; road italics; all tipoff times TBA):

Tuesday/Wednesday, December 30th/31st vs. Notre Dame

Friday, January 2nd vs. Louisville

Tuesday/Wednesday, January 6th/7th at Virginia Tech

Saturday, January 10th at Virginia

Tuesday/Wednesday, January 13th/14th vs. North Carolina

Saturday, January 17th vs. Duke

Saturday, January 24th vs. Cal

Tuesday/Wednesday, January 27th/28th at Miami

Saturday, January 31st at Florida State

Tuesday/Wednesday, February 3rd/4th vs. Clemson

Saturday, February 7th vs. Georgia Tech

Tuesday/Wednesday, February 10th/11th at Boston College

Saturday, February 14th at Wake Forest

Saturday, February 21st at Cal

Tuesday/Wednesday, February 24th/25th vs. Pittsburgh

Saturday, February 28th vs. SMU

Tuesday/Wednesday, March 3rd/4th at Notre Dame

Saturday, March 7th at NC State

First off, it’s interesting that the early week dates of ACC play aren’t officially locked in. They’re either Tuesday or Wednesday. No doubt that’s television dictating that. I don’t recall seeing that on a Pac-12 schedule or if I did, it would be like once on the schedule. I thought that was interesting.

Getting Duke and North Carolina at home will be fun. Given Cal starts their spring semester Monday, January 20th, the Golden Bears may not have as good of a turnout from their student section for those games, which is kind of a bummer for them. Stanford’s winter quarter on the other hand begins January 6th, so they’ll be able to pack Maples Pavilion with students. Last season, the road schedule featured more marquee matchups than they did at home. This year it’s flipped.

Touching more on Cal, Stanford won’t face them until January 24th and that will be at home, so no December meeting between the two of them like last year. And then the game at Cal will be on February 21st, so there will be students available for that game. That’ll be a tough environment as it always is. Stanford swept Cal last season and will look to do so once more.

Notre Dame is the one school outside of Cal that Stanford will see twice. Given the rivalry that Notre Dame and Stanford have, it’s fun that they’ll get to square off twice. Stanford had a narrow two point loss (56-54) to Notre Dame last season in South Bend, so they’ll look to get even.

Finally, it’s a pretty even schedule in terms of two games at home and then two games away. The games against Cal either being the third game of a three-game home stand or the third game of a three-game road trip. Given the games against Cal are the only game of the week, that helps things out travel-wise. Those are two weeks that they’ll be in the Bay Area.

Overall, it’s an exciting schedule for Stanford. Getting Duke and North Carolina at home is obviously the part that most stands out, but across the board, there’s a lot of exciting games coming to Maples Pavilion. It’ll be fun to see how the Cardinal two in year two of the Kyle Smith era.
