Stanford WR Myles Libman receives Jeff Trojan Memorial Scholarship

Stanford junior wide receiver Myles Libman has received the first ever Jeff Trojan Memorial Scholarship, honoring the late Jeff Trojan, who played wide receiver at Stanford from 2010-2014. Stanford general manager Andrew Luck shared the news with the whole team after a practice.
On the Jeff Trojan Memorial Scholarship Fund page it reads:
“There is no greater personal achievement for a Stanford football player than starting as a walk-on and earning a scholarship. While most scholarship athletes are recruited for their potential, walk-ons earn their place—and eventually their scholarship—through hard work, dedication, and impact on the field. No one exemplified this journey more than Jeff Trojan, ’14. As a walk-on wide receiver, Jeff’s relentless commitment and leadership earned him a full scholarship in his fifth year. His family is establishing this memorial scholarship to honor Jeff’s legacy by supporting a walk-on football student-athlete who embodies his spirit and determination, and invites others to join them.”
While so much of college sports is about money and the cold hard reality of having to win games in order to stay relevant, moments like this remind us of why people were drawn to college athletics in the first place. It was really neat to see Libman get honored with such a special scholarship and for the family of Jeff Trojan to be able to carry on his legacy in this way.
Libman has switched his jersey number to No. 18, the same number that Trojan wore at Stanford. Listed at 6’0”, 195 pounds, Libman will look to have his most productive season on The Farm yet as he is currently slotted number two on the wide receiver depth chart behind wide receiver number three Bryce Farrell. Libman has got a nice blend of speed and agility that should serve him well this season. I’m sure he’ll wear Trojan’s number with pride and do all he can to honor his legacy on the field.
