Stanford's Valerie Glozman & Alyssa Ahn qualify for US Open main draw; Monika Ekstrand gets qualifier spot

A pair of Stanford women’s tennis players have qualified for the main draw of the US Open, which will begin Sunday, August 24th: Rising sophomore Valerie Glozman and incoming freshman Alyssa Ahn. Glozman won the women’s singles title at the American Collegiate Wild Card Playoffs, defeating Texas A&M senior Mary Stoiana 7-6, 6-3 in the final. Ahn won the girls’ singles title at the USTA National Championships, defeating Maya Iyengar 6-1, 6-2 in the final.
The US Open gives out main draw wild cards to select winners at USTA events. The other grand slams (Wimbledon, French Open, & Australian Open) do something similar for winners of events in the countries that they reside in. The US Open is truly a unique chance for young American players to get a taste of grand slam tennis. Given that, this is a tremendous opportunity for both Glozman and Ahn to play in the main draw of a grand slam.
As for incoming freshman Monika Ekstrand, while not getting a main draw wild card, she did receive a wild card for the US Open qualifying tournament, which starts on Monday, August 18th. That makes three players on Stanford’s 2025-26 roster that will be playing in New York.
Entering her freshman season, Glozman was a 5-star blue chip recruit, ranked No. 1 in the nation in her class according to TennisRecruiting.net and ranked No. 131 in the ITF junior rankings which is a global ranking. She was 12-1 all-time versus blue chip recruits. Glozman continued to back up her ranking during her freshman season at Stanford. She went 32-5, putting together a fantastic year in which she finished the season ranked No. 10 in the nation, going 15-5 against ranked opponents.
As for the incoming freshmen Ahn and Esktrand, they are both 5-star blue chip recruits, joining fellow 5-star blue chip recruit Tianmei Wang in the Cardinal’s 2025 recruiting class, which ranks No. 1 in the nation. The Cardinal are looking to build on a season in which they reached the Super Regional round of the NCAA tournament, losing to Oklahoma State 4-3. With such a strong recruiting class coming in, they should like their chances of making an even deeper run next season.
Going back to the US Open, it’s a huge deal for Glozman and Ahn to both get a main draw wild card to the US Open. That’s an experience that they will always remember. Hopefully for Ekstrand, she’ll be able to extend her stay in New York and join them in the main draw after playing in the qualifying round. It would certainly be cool for Stanford to have all three of them playing in the main draw.
