Over the weekend, No. 4 Stanford women’s volleyball had a successful road trip in the Old Dominion, defeating Virginia 3-1 (25-15, 25-14, 22-25, 25-17) on Saturday and Virginia Tech 3-0 (25-16, 25-22, 25-20) on Sunday. Stanford is now 11-2 overall and 2-0 in the ACC.

BOX SCORE: Stanford at Virginia-Saturday, September 27th

BOX SCORE: Stanford at Virginia Tech-Sunday, September 28th

Starting with Saturday’s win over Virginia, middle blocker Lizzy Andrew and outside hitter Elia Rubin each had 14 kills while outside hitter Ipar Kurt had nine kills. Andrew was on fire in this match, hitting .600 and really dominating the middle. Rubin was of course fantastic as well, doing a great job of setting the tone outside as she always does.

Stanford hit .235 for the entire match, doing a great job in the 1st and 2nd sets, hitting .375 and .406 respectively. Stanford took a dip in the 3rd set, hitting .029 as Virginia took the set 25-22, but they were able to bounce back in the 4th set to win 25-17 as they hit .152. Not a great hitting percentage, but good enough to get the job done, holding Virginia to .054 hitting in the final set.

Actually, all match long, Stanford’s defense was superb as Virginia hit .063 for the entire match. The best set hitting-wise for Virginia was in the second set when they hit .138. They never were able to get into much of a rhythm, which is a testament to Stanford’s defense.

Moving on to the match against Virginia Tech, Elia Rubin did not play as she presumably got the day off to rest. Outside hitter Julia Blyashov balled out against the Hokies with 16 kills and five digs, hitting .467 while Andrew once again was sensational with 14 kills, hitting .500. While the second and third sets were tight, Stanford was still able to get the sweep. Overall, it was smooth sailing for the Cardinal against the Hokies.

One other player who was fantastic in both matches for the Cardinal was freshman setter Logan Parks. She had 33 assists against Viriginia and 42 assists against Virginia Tech. As a result of her stellar performance, she was named ACC Freshman of the Week

Up next for Stanford is a home match against Notre Dame on Friday, October 3rd. That match will begin at 7:00 PM PT on ACCNX.
