Over the weekend, No. 5 Stanford women’s volleyball picked up road wins at Boston College and Syracuse, sweeping both teams 3-0. Stanford improves to 14-3 overall and 5-1 in the ACC.

BOX SCORE: Stanford at Boston College-Friday, October 10th

BOX SCORE: Stanford at Syracuse-Sunday, October 12th

Starting with the win over Boston College, Stanford took that one 25-21, 25-19, 25-22. It was three tight sets, but they were able to still come out on top with the sweep. Outside hitter Ipar Kurt led the way with 12 kills, hitting .320 while middle blockers Lizzy Andrew (10 kills) and Erika Sayer (9 kills) were right behind her. Andrew hitting .400 and Sayer hitting .583. Boston College never led in the first or second sets, but in the third set, they were able to lead for a little bit and had everything tied up 20-20 before Stanford finally pulled away to take the third set 25-22.

As for the match against Syracuse, Stanford won that one 25-15, 25-16, 25-12. Lizzy Andrew, (10 kills), Julia Blyashov (9 kills & 9 digs), and Elia Rubin (9 kills & 12 digs) led the way for the Cardinal. Andrew in particular was fantastic as she was hitting .625. Blyashov was hitting .212 while Rubin was hitting .318. Not great hitting numbers, but the two of them still amassed a good number of kills. In each of the three sets, Syracuse got off to a solid start only for Stanford to pull away. So while the final score against Syracuse wasn’t as close, in many ways, Syracuse put up more of a fight just in terms of playing Stanford closer early in each set.

Overall, this was a successful road trip for the Cardinal. They won both matches in 3-0 sweeps, bouncing back from a tough home loss to No. 4 Louisville. They needed to get back in the win column and do so convincingly.

Up next for Stanford is a home match against Florida State on Thursday, October 16th. That will begin at 7:00 PM PT on ACCNX.
