Colorado football players and assistant coaches will not meet with the media in the lead up to the Buffaloes’ Week 11 matchup against West Virginia, per Colorado beat reporter Brian Howell. The move comes after the Buffaloes lost to Arizona 52-17 on Saturday.

Instead, it will only be head coach Deion Sanders that addresses the media throughout the week. Sanders also did not allow players or coaches to talk to the media following the Week 10 loss.

It’s customary for several top performers and assistants to meet with the media at various times throughout the week. While no explanation was given for the decision, the Buffaloes have been outscored 105-24 over the past two weeks. However, Sanders appears to be trying to protect his players from criticism from the media.

“No one will be available tonight,” Sanders said on Saturday after the game. “It’s on me. Don’t attack the coordinators. Come at me. Don’t attack the players. Come at me. This is me. This has nothing to do with them. It has everything to do with me.”

This past weekend saw Colorado be out-gained 417-299 on offense, while its defense gave up over 200 yards on the ground to the Wildcats. However, the two most frustrating parts of the matchup were the 14 penalties that accumulated for 110 total yards throughout the contest and five turnovers.

Four different quarterbacks saw action during the contest. Freshman Julian Lewis was the team’s leading passer finishing 9-17 passing for 121 yards and a touchdown. However, Kaidon Salter was 11-15 for 49 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Ryan Staub threw two passes during the contest — both interceptions. Dominiq Ponder also threw a pass, which fell incomplete.

Colorado is currently 3-6 on the season and with three games left on its schedule this season, the Buffaloes will have to win out to qualify for bowl eligibility. That effort begins this Saturday on the road in Morgantown.

Looking ahead, the Buffaloes will be on their bye during Week 12. When they return, Colorado will match up against Arizona State at home before hitting the road for the regular season finale against Kansas State.

Kickoff between the Buffaloes and Mountaineers is set for Noon ET. The game will air live on TNT and be available to stream on HBO Max.
