GAME THREAD: Cal squares off with Minnesota

Cal is set for its biggest game of the season so far. It’s still early, but the Bears’ Week 3 matchup with Minnesota is the first test of the season. The Golden Gophers are undefeated and share the same 2-0 record as Justin Wilcox‘s Bears.
The Saturday game at California Memorial Stadium will serve as a measuring stick for both teams. Cal knocked off Oregon State and Texas Southern in its first two games. Meanwhile, Minnesota took care of Buffalo and Northwestern State.
The Week 3 contest is an intriguing one on many fronts. The Gophers have the No. 1 defense among all FBS teams and are averaging less than 100 yards allowed through two games. P.J. Fleck’s group is also tops in terms of passing yards allowed.
On the other side, Cal has been impressive defensively but its offense is where the focus will be Saturday. Freshman quarterback Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele shined in his debut two weeks ago and finished strong against Texas Southern last Saturday.
This week’s matchup will be his first against a Power Four opponent. Golden Bear Report will have full coverage of Saturday’s contest, and you can discuss the game throughout the evening in our live game thread.
