Minnesota Golden Gophers 2027 quarterback commitment Furian Inferrera will miss the remainder of his junior season, he announced on social media on Thursday.

“First, I want to thank everyone who’s helped me this season, from my coaching staff, parents, trainers, and teammates,” he said in a statement. “Thank you to the Minnesota staff for the love and support through this process. Unfortunately, I’ve suffered an injury that’ll keep me out for the rest of the season.”

“I’ve dealt with this injury prior to and through the season because I wanted to play for my guys and stay in the fight with them,” the three-star added. “This is one of the hardest things I’ve had to face. I wish I could be out there with my brothers and go ball with them. The one thing that’s for certain is that I will attack the offseason and be back bigger, stronger, and faster than ever before, and I’ll be ready for next year.”

The 6-foot-3, 187-pound Inferrera committed to Minnesota in mid-June, flipping his commitment to the Gophers from Boston College.

“Minnesota checked multiple boxes, such as them being in a tough conference, a history of winning with Coach Fleck, a Pro-style offense, coaching stability, and a place that I felt comfortable going to,” Inferrera told Gophers Nation.

This fall, the 2027 quarterback was set to serve as the backup to Wisconsin’s 2026 quarterback commitment Ryan Hopkins but also was in position to be the program’s starting quarterback next fall.

“I feel that my development at Mater Dei has been exponential,’ Inferrera told Gophers Nation. “In which my head coach (Raul Lara) and offensive coordinator (Randy Wright) have done a great job of developing me not only physically but also mentally,” he added. “I feel that the competition I played with and against has been a big part of my development as well, with the majority of players on my team as well as my competition being D1 football players.”

As a sophomore in 2024, Inferrera completed 12-of-16 passing attempts for 133 yards and one touchdown.
