By the Numbers: Minnesota vs Nebraska
The Minnesota Golden Gophers (4-2, 2-1) will take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-1, 2-1) on Friday night at Huntington Bank Stadium. Ahead of the matchup, Gophers Nation takes a look at the Minnesota vs Nebraska matchup and several important stats and notes of significance.
310.2: Nebraska’s offense this season is averaging 310.2 passing yards this season. In six games this season, they have eclipsed 300+ yards three times, the last coming on September 20 against Michigan.
268: The Gophers are averaging 268 passing yards per game at home this season, including 232 yards last week against the Purdue Boilermakers.
108.3: Minnesota native Emmett Johnson is having a fantastic season for the Huskers, totaling 650 yards and 6.2 yards per carry this season. He also has teven touchdowns to go with 24 receptions for 130 yarsd and one touchdown.
99: Darius Taylor in his first game back without any sort of restrictions, toaled 99 yards from scrimmage on 20 touches.
45.9%: Nebraska’s offense has been great on third down this season, converting at a 45.4% rate, 28th best in the nation.
44.3: Minnesota’s rushing attack has been kept to a mere 44.3 yards per game the last three weeks including 2.2 yards per carry.
20.2: Nebraska is averaging 20.2 points per first half this season, which ranks 14th in the country.
19: It’s been 19 years since Nebraska has won true back-to-back road games.
18.9: Nebraska wide receiver Nyziah Hunter is averaging a tremendous 18.9 yards per reception, totaling 415 yards and four touchdowns on 22 receptions.
12: The Huskers have been good at limiting big plays this seaosn with just 12 plays of 20+ yards allowed, tied for third best in the season.
11.5: Nebraska is averaging 11.5 yards per point this season, a strong sign of their efficiecny as an offense, ranking 12th in the country. For comparison, the Gophers are averaging 16 yards per point which ranks 92nd.
9.4: The Gophers have struggled in the first half offensively this season, averaging just 9.4 points per first half.
9: Nebraska kicker Kyle Cunanan has made nine of 10 field goal attempts this season including 2-of-3 from beyond 40+ yards.
6.5: Gophers defensive end Anthony Smith leads all defenders coming into the matchup with 6.5 tackles for loss. He also has 4.5 sacks this season.
6: P.J. Fleck has six wins over Nebraska in seven games as Minnesota’s head coach including five straight.
5.5: Minnesota’s run defense has allowed 5.5 yards per carry over their last two games against Ohio State and Purdue.
5: Since 2017 when P.J. Fleck took over the Gophers program, Minnesota has five wins over ranked opponents in 23 total games. Their last win over a top-25 opponent was last season, a 24-17 win over USC at home.
+5: The Gophers are +5 in turnover margin this season after forcing four turnovers last weekend against Purdue.
5: Over the past three seasons, Minnesota has been a home underdog in six games. In those six games, the Gophers own a 1-5 record, a 16.7% winning percentage.
4.5: The Huskers are allowing 4.5 yards per rush this season. Michigan earlier this year gashed Nebraska on the ground to the tune of 286 rushing yards and 8.7 yards per carry.
