Minnesota Countdown to Kickoff: No. 38 Emmit Carpenter

The countdown to kickoff for Minnesota’s 2025 season opener against the Buffalo Bulls countinues to dwindle and in today’s spotlight with 38 days remaining is former Gophers kicker Emmit Carpenter.
Carpenter was a three-year starter for the Golden Gophers from 2016 through 2018. The reliable Carpenter played in 38 games for Minnesota, collecting career totals of 117-of-118 in extra points and 53-for-67 in field goal opportunities.
Carpenter in 2016 experienced his best season for the Gophers, going 43-for-44 in extra point attempts while 22-for-24 in field goal opportunities. Apart of that 2016 season was a three-field goal game against Purdue which included making a pair of 50+ yard kicks, one of two Gophers to ever make two 50-plus field goals. In 2017, Carpenter didn’t enjoy as much success but still had a quality campaign going 31-for-31 in extra points and 14-for-20 in field goals. In 2018, his final season with the program he was 43-for-43 on extra points and 17-for-23 in field goals.
His 79.1% career kicking percentage ranks first among Gophers kickers all-time, ranking ahead of Chris Hawthorne (76.9%) and Dragan Kesich (76.8%). Additionally, his 276 points ranks second all-time amongst Golden Gophers.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers will kickoff their 2025 season on Augsut 28 at Huntington Bank Stadium with a scheduled kickoff tie of 7:00 p.m.. The game will be nationally televised on FS1.
