Minnesota Countdown to Kickoff: No. 25 P Brody Richter

The Minnesota Golden Gophers’ season opener on August 28 against the Buffalo Bulls continues to inch closer with 25 days remaining until the Golden Gophers take the field.
With 25 days remaining until toe meets leather, transfer punter Brody Richter is in today’s spotlight. The Scottsdale, Arizona native is entering his fourth overall season in college football and his first with the Golden Gophers. The redshirt junior comes with his fourth program after previously spending time at Arizona State, Northern Arizona, and UCLA.
Richter last season was UCLA’s starting punter, starting in 11 of 12 contests for the Bruins. Across 40 punt attempts, Richter averaged 42.8 yards per punt while pinning the opponent inside the 20-yard line 17 times. He also had five punts of 50+ yards over the course of the season.
With the Golden Gophers, Richter this fall camp will compete with fellow transfer punter Tom Weston for the starting job. Weston himself entered the program this offseason after spending two seasons with Ouachita Baptist. The Perth, Australia native enrolled on campus this June.
