The Minnesota Golden Gophers lost a commitment in their 2026 recruiting class over the weekend when wide receiver Kai Meza backed off his decision. But just two days later, the Gophers have added a new commitment to their class as 2026 tight end George Rohl, a standout at Ellsworth High School in Wisconsin, announced his decision to be a Gopher.

“It has always been a dream to play Big Ten,” Rohl told Gophers Nation about his decision. “UND was nothing but a great school with a great program being built by the new coaching staff, but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play in the Big Ten and with a team that I’ve grown up watching and been a fan of!”

Rohl’s decision comes just two days after making a visit to the Twin Cities for the program’s 31-28 win over the Rutgers Scarlet Knights, receiving an offer while on the visit.

“It was great,” Rohl said about his visit. “The staff was awesome and the environment was insane! I spent time with TE Coach Eric Koehler the most and met the other coaches as well! The conversations were great!”

Rohl is the third tight end commitment in Minnesota’s 2026 recruiting class, joining in-state four-star prospect Roman Voss and Missouri native Gabe Weaver. He is also the program’s 23rd overall commitment in the class.
