Minnesota football and Iowa set for mid-afternoon kick in week nine
The Minnesota Golden Gophers (5-2, 3-1) and the Iowa Hawkeyes (5-2, 3-1) will kick off their annual rivalry matchup next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. It was made official on Sunday. The Floyd of Rosedale will be on the line at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City.
Both the Gophers and Hawkeyes are coming off wins in week eight, the Golden Gophers upsetting No. 25 Nebraska at Huntington Bank Stadium, 24-6. The Gophers have now won back-to-back games, also beating Purdue, 27-20, in week seven.
The Hawkeyes defeated Penn State 25-24. It was the second-straight win for the Hawkeyes, who also defeated Wisconsin in week seven, 37-0.
Next Saturday’s matchup will be the 119th all-time in the series, with the Gophers holding a 63-53-2 advantage.
Under head coach P.J. Fleck, the Gophers have one win in eight tries, defeating the Hawkeyes 12-10 in Iowa City. It was the program’s first win at Kinnick Stadium since 1999. The Gophers haven’t won back-to-back games in Iowa City since the 1979 and 1981 seasons.
