Report: Darius Taylor expected to miss Minnesota's week three matchup against California
Minnesota Golden Gophers star running back Darius Taylor is doubtful for this evening’s matchup against California, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
“Sources: Minnesota star tailback Darius Taylor is considered doubtful at Cal tonight,” Thamel reported. “He’s Minnesota’s best player and led them in rushing the last two years. He injured his leg against Northwestern State last week.”
Last week in the Gophers’ blowout win over Northwestern State, Taylor left the game in the first quarter after grabbing the back of his leg in the hamstring area following a 17-yard run.
Taylor has totaled 33 carries for 161 yards through two games, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. He also has five receptions for 45 yards.
Over his first 20 career games played, Taylor has 376 rushing attempts for 1,946 yards and 15 touchdowns, as well as 70 career receptions for 487 yards and two touchdowns. Taylor notably missed seven games as a true freshman during the 2023 season and also missed last year’s season opener against North Carolina. The Gophers are 2-6 during in those combined eight games without Taylor.
If Taylor does indeed miss tonight’s game, the Gophers will be left with A.J. Turner, Cameron Davis, and Fame Ijeboi handling the carries.
