Minnesota football opens as double-digit favorite over Purdue

The Minnesota Golden Gophers are coming off their second loss of the season, a 42-3 defeat at the hands of the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium on Saturday.
Now, the Golden Gophers, at 3-2 and 1-1 in Big Ten play, will turn their attention to the Purdue Boilermakers (2-3, 0-2).
According to BetMGM, the Golden Gophers are a 10.5-point favorite over the Boilermakers for next Saturday night’s matchup at Huntington Bank Stadium. The total for the game is currently set at 50.5 points.
Against the spread this season, Minnesota is 1-4, only covering in a 66-0 win over Northwestern State as a 42.5-point favorite. They have failed to cover in each of their last three games against California (-3), Rutgers (-4), and Ohio State (+23.5)
The Boilermakers, after starting 2-0, have lost three straight games to USC, Notre Dame, and Illinois. All three losses have been by 14 points or more, including a 26-point loss to the Fighting Irish.
Minnesota and Purdue have faced each other 79 times since 1894, with the Gophers winning 41 of 79 matchups and holding a 41-3-35 advantage. Purdue has won each of the last two meetings in 2022 and 2023. Before the back-to-back losses, the Gophers had won four straight and eight of nine against the Boilermakers.
Minnesota and Purdue will kick off on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CT. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
