Minnesota set to face Nebraska this Friday
Minnesota this weekend will face off against the No. 25 Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-1, 2-1) on Friday night at Huntington Bank Stadium. The Gophers are currently a touchdown underdog to Matt Rhule and his Huskers’ program, led by sophomore quarterback Dylan Raiola.
The Gophers in week seven defeated the Purdue Boilermakers to improve their record to 4-2 this season, including 2-1 in Big Ten play. The Huskers picked up their fifth win, defeating Maryland 34-31 on the road. It was the first true road matchup for the Huskers this season; they also notably defeated Cincinnati 20-17 in a neutral-site matchup at Arrowhead Stadium in week one.
Minnesota holds a 37-25-2 advantage all-time over the Cornhuskers and has won five straight matchups dating back to 2019. P.J. Fleck overall holds a 6-1 career record against the Huskers and is undefeated at Huntington Bank Stadium with a 4-0 record.
Nebraska’s last win at Huntington Bank Stadium came a decade ago on Friday, 48-25 on October 17, 2015.
Gophers look for second win over Iowa in the last three years
On the flip side, the Gophers have not enjoyed nearly the same level of success against the Iowa Hawkeyes despite still holding a 63-53-2 all-time advantage in the series. The Hawkeyes have won nine of the last 10 games between the rivals, with Minnesota’s lone win coming in 2023, 12-10 in Iowa City.
Last season, the Hawkeyes defeated the Gophers 31-14 in Minneapolis.
The last time that the Gophers won back-to-back games in Iowa City was the 1979 and 1981 seasons. A 24-7 victory in 1979 and a 12-10 victory in 1981.
