The Gophers’ first drive of the second half started well with a 14-yard completion to Le’Meke Brockington, but two plays later, Drake Lindsey forces a throw downfield to Jameson Geers, and it’s picked off by TJ Hall deep in Iowa territory.

Kaden Wetjen returns punt for touchdown

It somehow keeps getting worse for the Gophers as Keden Wetjen returns a Tom Weston punt 50 yards for the touchdown. Iowa is now up 31-0.

Hawkeyes take a 24-0 lead early in the second quarter

It keeps getting worse for the Golden Gophers. Iowa takes a 24-0 lead as Mark Gronowski makes a strong throw to Reece Vander Zee for a 29-yard touchdown reception. It’s Gronowski’s first pass touchdown in Big Ten play.

A Disaster start for the Gophers

On the first play on the Gophers’ second drive of the game, Drake Lindsey throws a pass into double-coverage and it’s picked off by Iowa’s Zach Lutmer, who returns it for a 36-yard touchdown. Iowa takes a 17-0 lead with 2:57 remaining in the first quarter.

After a quality punt return from Kaden Wetjen set up the Hawkeyes at their own 38-yard line, the Hawkeyes quickly moved into Minnesota territory. Minnesota, however, forces a 34-yard field goal attempt after the Hawkeyes had 1st-and-10 from the Gophers’ 15.

Iowa scores on opening drive with ease

Iowa’s first drive of the game was an easy one, going 75 yards on nine plays in less than five minutes. Hawkeyes with five carries for 31 yards on the drive. Mark Gronowski was 3-for-4 for 44 yards.

Gronowski’s legs hurt the Gophers multiple times on the drive, including scoring the opening touchdown from two yards out. The Hawkeyes’ starting quarterback had a seven-yard carry on the first play from scrimmage and was then able to extend a play on 3rd-and-11 before finding an open Jacob Gill for a first down. Kamari Moulton followed it up with a 21-yard run to the two-yard line before Gronowski walked in untouched for the score.

The Gophers will be missing two key pieces of their secondary, with cornerback Mike Gerald and safety Garrison Monroe both out for the game. Also out for Minnesota on Saturday are wide receiver Logan Loya and linebacker Jeff Roberson.
