RECAP: Minnesota keeps Axe at home with 17-7 win over Wisconsin

IMG_3870by: Dylan Callaghan-Croley21 hours agoDylanCCOn3

It wasn’t the prettiest of wins, but the Minnesota Golden Gophers don’t care how; they just care that they won.

Minnesota’s offense totaled just 218 yards in the win and was outgained 268-218, but did just enough to win the game. Drake Lindsey was 18-of-24 for 90 yards and one touchdown, while Darius Taylor ran for 100 yards on 19 carries while finding the endzone once on a 49-yard touchdown, his second-longest run of the season.

The Minnesota defense, which struggled in recent weeks, had three turnovers in the win, all coming by the hands of John Nestor, who recovered a fumble in the first quarter before recording two interceptions in the third quarter. A Drake Lindsey floated pass to Jameson Geers would result in a 13-yard touchdown that essentially put the game away for Minnesota, giving them a 17-7 lead.

The Gophers would close the game out in the fourth quarter, forcing a Wisconsin turnover on downs with under three minutes to go, before the offense ran out the clock.

Minnesota keeps the Axe at home and has won back-to-back games over the Badgers as well as four of their last five.
