Minnesota freshman RB Tre Berry no longer with program
A member of Minnesota’s 2025 recruiting class is no longer with the program. The Gophers’ online roster no longer lists true freshman running back Tre Berry, a three-star signee.
It is unclear when Berry was removed from Minnesota’s roster exactly, though he notably appeared in the game notes for the program’s 23-20 win over Michigan State, but did not appear in the game notes for Minnesota’s week 12 matchup against Oregon, nor their week 13 matchup against Northwestern.
The Montgomery, Alabama native was a late addition to Minnesota’s 2025 recruiting class, committing to the Gophers on December 4, 2024. He was ranked by Rivals as a top-1500 player nationally, the no. 120 running back in the country, and a top-50 player in the state of Alabama.
Berry committed to the Golden Gophers over FBS offers from Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Boston College, FIU, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, James Madison, Kent State, Liberty, Marshall, Northwestern, Southern Miss, Syracuse, Troy, and UAB.
During his senior season of high school football at Lanier High School, Berry ran for 677 yards and 12 touchdowns across 140 carries. He was one of three running back signees in the program’s 2026 recruiting class, joining Xavier Ford (Leesville, AL) and Grant Washington (Cleveland, OH).
Both Ford and Washington have appeared for the Gophers this fall, while Berry did not before he departed from the program.
Currently, Minnesota is projected to have eight running backs on its roster for the 2025 season, as they have five running backs with eligibility available for the 2025 season, as well as three running back commitments in its 2026 recruiting class.
