The countdown to MInnesota’s 2025 season is down to 48 days bringing redshirt freshman Mason Carrier into the spotlight.

The Detroit Lakes, Minnesota native enters his second year with the program after appearing in one game as a true freshman in 2024. After not playing in any games during the regular season, Carrier made his collegiate debut in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl against Virginia Tech. He did not record any stats in that appearance.

Prior to his time as a Gopher, Carrier was a four-year starter at Detroit Lakes High School where he had over 200 career tackles, 21 tackles for loss, and six sacks.

A member of Minnesota’s 2024 recruiting class, Carrier committed to the Gophers in June of 2022 after a strong camp performance. The Golden Gophers were the lone offer for Carrier. He was rated as a three-star prospect across the recruiting industry including as a top-40 linebacker nationally by Rivals and a top-10 player in Minnesota.

Carrier in 2025 isn’t expected to have a major role in the Gophers’ defense but will compete for playing time in fall camp and heading into the season. He’s currently a bit down the depth chart at the weakside linebacker position but could push redshirt senior Devon Williams for snaps.
