The countdown until Minnesota’s 2025 season opener against the Buffalo Bulls has reached another milestone. Now, officially under 30 days, the countdown till August 28 is down to 29 days, putting redshirt sophomore defensive back Ethan Carrier into the spotlight.

Carrier is the older brother of Gophers redshirt freshman linebacker Mason Carrier. The elder Carrier was a walk-on as part of the Gophers’ 2023 recruiting class. He did not see any playing time as a true freshman or redshirt freshman.

Before his time with the Gophers, Carrier was a two-way standout for Detroit Lakes High School in Detroit Lakes, Michigan. Definitely he had over 100 tackles as a senior while also rushing for almost 900 yards and nine touchdowns on 100 carries on the offensvie side of the ball. A three-sport athlete for Detroit Lakes, Carrier also played basketball and participated in track and field for Detroit Lakes.

In 2025, Carrier is once again expected to have a limited role; his best opportunity to make any contributions this fall will likely be on special teams. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound defensive back has three years of collegiate eligibility remaining entering this fall.
