Pair of Minnesota wide receivers intend to enter transfer portal
Minnesota’s ongoing roster turnover continued on Friday evening as wide receivers Cristian Driver and Legend Lyons both announced their intentions to enter the transfer portal.
Driver will enter the transfer portal for the second time; he previously did so following the 2023 season, after spending two seasons with the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Once arriving in the Twin Cities, Driver played in 11 games in 2024, starting one, and recorded seven receptions for 49 yards and one touchdown. He did not appear in any games this season, however, and was often listed on the program’s availability report. Driver is set to have one year of eligibility remaining at his next program, but could choose to potentially obtain a medical redshirt.
Lyons, on the other hand, enters the portal less than a year after arriving on campus. The Covina, California native signed with the program as part of their 2025 recruiting class and was considered a top-60 talent in the state of California last cycle. He did not appear in a game for the Gophers this season. He will have four years of eligibility remaining.
Who has entered the portal for the Gophers?
Driver and Lyons are the eighth and ninth players to announce their intentions to enter the portal since Wednesday. They join quarterback Jackson Kollock, wide receiver Kenric Lanier, wide receiver Quentin Redding, offensive tackle Reese Tripp, defensive backs Harrison Brun and Ethan Carrier, as well as punter Caleb McGrath.
