The Minnesota Golden Gophers defeated the Rutgers Scarlet Knights on Saturday afternoon at Huntington Bank Stadium, 31-28, overcoming a 14-point first-half deficit along the way.
The story of the game was easily the performance of redshirt freshman quarterback Drake Lindsey. In his first career Big Ten start, the Fayetteville, Arkansas native was fantastic, completing 31-of-41 passing attempts for 324 yards and three touchdowns.
In the second half, he was especially electric, completing 23-of-28 passing attempts for 202 yards and a pair of scores.
The Gophers also saw standout offensive performances from Jalen Smith, who had four receptions, 103 yards, and a touchdown. Javon Tracy recorded six receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown while Le’Meke Brockington built on his career day against Cal with five receptions for 41 yards and a score.
The Minnesota defense on Saturday struggled to slow down the Rutgers offense as the Scarlet Knights totaled 243 yards in the first half, including 150 passing yards from Athan Kaliakmanis. But improved greatly following halftime, keeping the Scarlet Knights to less than 150 yards of total offense in the second half and just seven points.
