REPORT: Minnesota wide receiver Kenric Lanier set to enter transfer portal
According to a report from CBS Sports’ Matt Zenits, Minnesota wide receiver Kenric Lanier is expected to enter the transfer portal.
Lanier joins offensive lineman Reese Tripp, kicker Caleb McGrath, and wide receiver Quentin Redding as players expected to enter the portal on January 2 when it opens.
The Georgia native played in 10 games for Minnesota this season, totaling three receptions for 79 yards. In his three years with the program, he totaled four receptions for 96 yards.
This season, Lanier played the fifth-most wide receiver snaps of any Gophers wideout with 149. Finishing ahead of him were Le’Meke Brockington, Javon Tracy, Jalen Smith, and Malachi Coleman.
The Decatur, Georgia native was a Rivals Industry Ranking three-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting cycle, ranked as a top-700 player nationally and a top-100 wide receiver. Lanier committed to the Gophers over notable offers from Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt.
Lanier joins a trio of other Gophers in the portal
Shortly after Minnesota offensive lineman Reese Tripp’s intentions of entering the portal became known, Minnesota depth punter Caleb McGrath and depth receiver Quentin Redding both announced their intentions as well.
McGrath, a native of Apple Valley and former standout at Eastview, never appeared in a game for the Gophers over three seasons and has two years of eligibility remaining. Redding appeared in just a handful of games offensively for the Gophers, totaling 31 snaps in his career while also contributing on special teams.
Minnesota recently completed its 2025 regular season with a 7-5 record and is awaiting its bowl destination for this month’s bowl season. The Gophers are set to begin bowl practices on Thursday.
