Updated Minnesota football bowl projections entering week eight
The Minnesota Golden Gophers are 4-2 (2-1) at the midway makr of their 2025 season. On Friday, the Gophers will face one of their toughest opponents of the season, the Nebraska Cornhuskers (5-1, 2-1).

As the Gophers head into their Friday night matchup, here’s where bowl projections have the Gophers headed this postseason.
Minnesota Football Bowl Projections
On3 (McMurphy):
McMurphy has Minnesota projected to play in the Frisco Bowl on December 23 in Frisco, Texas. The projected opponent is the Big 12’s Kansas Jayhawks. Minnesota and Kansas have played seven times all-time, their first meeting coming in 1893 and their last coming in 2008, a 42-21 Kansas win in the Insight Bowl.
Athlon (Lassan)
Athlon Sports predicts the Gophers will be heading to Nashville for the Music City Bowl on December 30. Steven Lassan projects the Gophers to the bowl game after having them projected to the GameAbove Sports Bowl last week. The Gophers projected opponent is the Florida Gators. The Gophers and Gators have never played eachother.
CBS Sports
CBS Sports is also projecting the Gophers to head to the GameAbove Sports Bowl in Detroit to face the Ohio Bobcats. The Gophers have been to Detroit three times since 2015, making trips in 2015, 2019, and 2023. The Gophers’ last matchup against Ohio came in 2015, a 27-24 win for Minnesota.
ESPN (Bonagura | Schlabach):
Both ESPN bowl experts have the Golden Gophers headed to the Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona at Chase Field the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks. The projected opponents do differ as Bonagura has the Gophers facing TCU and Schlabach projects Baylor.
Minnesota has faced TCU three times, TCU holding a 2-1 advantage. The first meeting was in 1974, a 9-7 Gpohers win. The last time was in 2015, a 23-17 win for TCU in Minneapolis.
The Gophers and Bears, on the other hand, have only played once, a 34-9 win for Minnesota in Wacco.
