What is the opening line for Minnesota football's week 5 matchup against Rutgers?
The opening line is out for Minnesota football’s week five matchup at Huntington Bank Stadium against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
According to BetMGM, the Golden Gophers are 5.5-point favorites over the Scarlet Knights.
Rutgers is coming off a 38-28 loss to the Iowa Hawkeyes this past weekend. It was the first setback of the season for Greg Schiano’s team, which opened its season with wins over Ohio, Miami (OH), and Norfolk State.
The Golden Gophers in week four enjoyed their first bye week of the season, coming on the heels of their own first loss. In week three, the Golden Gophers fell to the ACC’s California Golden Bears 27-14.
Minnesota looks to avenge loss from last fall
Minnesota all-time owns a 3-1 record against Rutgers with wins in 2016, 2019, and 2022. Last season, the Gophers fell to the Scarlet Knights in Piscataway 26-19. In that loss, the Gophers allowed former starting quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis to throw for 240 yards and three touchdowns.
The Antioch, Illinois native is off to a strong start this season as well, completing 86-of-125 passing attempts for 1,150 yards and seven touchdowns in four games.
The Gophers and Scarlet Knights are set to kick off next Saturday at 12:00 p.m. with the game televised on the Big Ten Network. It will be the program’s second game on BTN this season after beating Northwestern State 66-0 in week two.
