Where do the latest bowl projections have the Gophers playing this postseason?

The Minnesota Golden Gophers began their 2025 season last week with a 23-10 win over the Buffalo Bulls. It was a game that was headlined by the Gophers’ dominant defensive effort, allowing just over 150 yards of total offense and 10 points.
With their 1-0 record, the Gophers will now look to improve to 2-0 this upcoming weekend against FCS opponent Northwestern State. The Gophers are expected to be heavy favorites over the Demons, with projected spreads being upwards of 45+ points.
As week two of the season approaches, the latest college football bowl projections have been released. Below, we gathered a handful of those projections to see where the Gophers could be going bowling this fall.
Brett McMurphy, On3 Sports
McMurphy’s latest bowl projections have Minnesota headed west for the holidays with a projected matchup against BYU in the Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona, on December 26.
Minnesota was last in the Rate Bowl in 2021, a 18-6 win over the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Athlon Sports agrees with McMurphy in projecting Minnesota to the Rate Bowl to face the Baylor Bears.
Mark Sclabach, ESPN.com | Kyle Bonagura, ESPN.com
Schlabach joins McMurphy and Athlon in projecting Minnesota to the Rate Bowl, this time against the Baylor Bears. Bonagura, on the other hand, prefers the Gophers to head to the Music City Bowl in Nashville to face Oklahoma.
The Gophers have not played in the Music City Bowl since 2005 when they appeared in the game for the third time in four seasons (also playing in it in 2002 and 2004).
The Gophers lost the most recent of those matchups in 2005 to Virginia 34-31.
Another vote for the Rate Bowl as CBS projects Minnesota to face Kansas State in Phoenix.
