Kearney to Trust in Program, Returning Two Starters

Among those expected to step into starting roles – and excel – for 2025 Kearney High Football will senior QB Zach Atchison (16).
Kearney Overview
Following a great season in which Kearney’s only two losses were to eventual Class A champion Millard South the Bearcats return only two defensive starters from that 10-2 team.
Kearney Head Coach Brandon Cool
“This is a real competitive group with great senior leadership an a tremendous work ethic,” says head coach Brandon Cool, a 1995 graduate of Doane College who enters his 25th season leading the Kearney program, having led the Bearcats to the 2006 Class A state title and 2017 state final. “We have limited varsity experience, and must build some depth in both of our lines.”

Kearney Offense
Senior Zach Atchison (6-2, 190) is the team’s likely quarterback, last season passing for 111 yards and a TD and also rushing for two scores, with senior John Florell (6-2, 195) another candidate at that position. Senior Levi Pofahl (5-11, 200) will lead the ground game, last season rushing for 300 yards and two TDs, with seniors Kellen Denny (6-0, 145) and Treyton Norman (6-1, 155) the team’s wide receivers.
Senior Zach Wulf (6-2, 235) will anchor the Bearcats offensive line with seniors Hayden Fuqua (6-0, 240) and Ty Buescher (6-0, 195) leading contenders to start, while seniors Leyton Paider (6-2, 195) and Cole Larson (6-5, 215) will play the tight end positions.
Kearney Defense
Wulf (50 tackles, 6 TFL) is also considered one of the better defensive linemen in Class A, with Fuqua and Buecscher also in the D-line mix while Denney and Norman are among the contenders to contribute in the Bearcats’ secondary.
Florell (64 tackles, 5 TFL, 2 INT) is an exceptional linebacker, leading a group that will also return Pofahl (15 tackles) with Paider and Larsen also expected to earn leading roles. Senior Carter Symington, who made all four of his PAT attempts alst season, figures to be the team’s new place kicker.
@HuskerlandBob Sez
Untested, yeah they’re untested, at least for the most part, however this is also Kearney High Football and we figure the Bearcats will find a way to scratch out six wins or so in the regular season and make the playoffs.
