It wasn't easy - see above - but in the end Ethan Shaw (2) led his Sandy Creek team to last year's thrilling 44-42 win over Stanton in the Class D-1 state final. The championship was the first-ever for the Cougars.

Since 1996 Nebraska's state high school football championships almost always have been contested at Memorial Stadium.
