Nebraska has landed a commitment from 2027 Raleigh (N.C) Rolesville four-star running back Amir Brown, following back-to-back visits to Lincoln and an all-out push from Nebraska’s 2027 commits to add the 5-foot-11, 200lb back to the fold.

Brown decommitted from in-state North Carolina in mid-October and quickly set up his first visit to Lincoln for Oct. 25, to see the Huskers take on Northwestern. A late Friday night game and a connection via Detroit, didn’t make it easy but Brown made it into Memorial Stadium, but had missed the first half by the time he arrived in Memorial Stadium. No matter, his experience in the second half of Nebraska’s 28-21 win and his postgame conversations with running backs coach EJ Barthel and 2027 four-star quarterback commit Trae Taylor were enough to convince the four-star to return a week later.

Brown went home and figured out the logistics, including cancelling a previously scheduled visit to Texas Nov. 1, to instead get back to Lincoln to see the Huskers take on USC under the lights.

Back-to-back weekends in Lincoln paired with the consistent love from Nebraska’s coaches and commits got the Huskers over the top for Brown, but he came to the realization after his first in-person interaction with Barthel that he’d like to play for a coach like him.

“Coach EJ, he’s a really great dude,” he said. “Me and him, we don’t just talk about football. We talk about football obviously but it’s not always about football… I feel like Coach EJ is somebody I want to coach me for the next 3-4 years.”

Nebraska’s fanbase played no small role in leading Brown to commit. After his first visit to Lincoln, he recalled fans pitching him on the Huskers in the airport as he was headed home. He was blown away by the atmosphere in both his game day visits.

“I thought they were joking when they said they had the No. 1 fan base in college football, but that’s for real,” he said. “Anywhere I went in Nebraska.. they were just telling me Nebraska is the place to be like, you wouldn’t want to be nowhere else.”

In 13 games as a junior, Brown has run for 1,374 yards and 22 touchdowns, averaging over seven yards per carry, along with another touchdown through the air. As a sophomore, he ran for 612 yards and eleven touchdowns.

Nebraska beat out the likes of Notre Dame, Texas, North Carolina, Indiana and Virginia for the four-star running back, who ranks as the No. 21 running back nationally per the Rivals industry rankings.

Brown is the sixth addition in Nebraska’s 2027 recruiting class and the first running back addition for the Huskers. He’s the fifth offensive commit and the fifth four-star commit for the Huskers in the cycle. He’s the second straight running back commit for EJ Barthel out of the state of North Carolina, joining 2026 three-star commit Jamal Rule, out of Charlotte (N.C) Christian.
