WATCH: Matt Rhule previews Minnesota, discusses Penn State reports in Monday press conference

Matt Rhule has led Nebraska football to 5-1 for the second straight season.
After starting the season with a 3-0 mark – via a 20-17 season-opening win over Cincinnati, a 68-0 domination of MAC opponent Akron and a 59-7 blowout over FCS team Houston Christian – they weren’t able to get the job done against Michigan in a disappointing 30-27 loss at home.
Now, though, the Huskers (5-1, 2-1 Big Ten) have a ton of momentum back on their side following back-to-back wins over Michigan State (38-27 in Week 6) and Maryland (34-31 in a fourth-quarter comeback on Saturday).
The Huskers trailed by seven with less than 14 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter when they took the ball at their own 8-yard line. Then, Matt Rhule’s crew showed its resolve.
Nebraska drove down the field to net a field goal to pull within a 31-27 deficit, came up with a defensive stop and then completed a rare come-from-behind, fourth-quarter go-ahead touchdown drive with 1:08 on the clock. The defense, again, came up clutch with a stop and the Huskers headed back to Lincoln with a potentially season-altering win.
Rhule dove much deeper into that win with plenty of additional thoughts on the Week 7 victory, what the win could mean for the team moving forward and, of course, preparation for this week’s upcoming matchup with Minnesota (4-2, 2-1). It’s a second straight road game for Nebraska as it will head to Minneapolis for a Friday night Big Ten battle (7 p.m. Central Time on FOX).

Of course, the win over Maryland and a major test at Minnesota were not the only topics of conversation – they weren’t even the lead topics.
Penn State fired James Franklin on Sunday, leaving vacant a coveted head-coaching opening at the Nittany Lions program – Rhule’s alma mater where he played as a walk-on linebacker, has strong ties to the athletic director (Pat Kraft) and a legitimate emotional connection on top of it all.
Rhule addressed the Franklin firing, reports that Rhule is considered a front-runner for the PSU opening and plenty more – including his thoughts on his current job, this Husker football team, plus the infrastructure and future of Nebraska football at his Monday press conference.
