MINNEAPOLIS – Nebraska football is 5-2.
Final score: Minnesota 24, Nebraska 6.
The 25th-ranked Huskers began the season with a tight 20-17 win over Big 12 opponent Cincinnati (now ranked No. 24 in the country), and then they rattled off back-to-back blowouts over Akron (68-0) and Houston Christian (59-7).
Then came the Week 4 showdown with Michigan in the Big Ten opener, but Nebraska didn’t get the job done in a 30-27 loss. The Huskers rebounded against the other B1G team from the state of Michigan in a 38-27 win over the Spartans, and they came back in the fourth quarter for a 34-31 victory over Maryland.
Those two bounce-back victories against MSU and UMD paved the way for Nebraska to earn its way into the national AP Top 25 poll for the first time this season.
But just like that, the Huskers (5-2 overall, 2-2 Big Ten) will lose that number to the left of its name. Nebraska came out sluggish on the road in Minneapolis and got downed by the Golden Gophers (5-2, 3-1), who now own a six-game winning streak over the Huskers. Minnesota coach P.J. Fleck moved his record to 7-1 over Nebraska since he took over in 2017.
The Huskers still have not won on the road at Minnesota since 2015, owning an 0-5 mark. Now, they return home to Lincoln to host Northwestern (4-2 overall, 2-1 Big Ten entering Saturday’s home game vs. 2-4 Purdue) next Saturday (Oct. 25) with kickoff time still to be announced.
