Recruiting Blitz: Who's next after landing elite DB Tory Pittman?

In this week’s episode of Recruiting Blitz, Inside Nebraska’s Tim Verghese reacts to Nebraska landing elite 2027 in-state safety Tory Pittman, who committed to the Huskers over the likes of LSU, Michigan, Colorado, USC and Oklahoma.
Verghese also discusses who Nebraska’s next commit could be, either in the 2026 or 2027 cycle. There’s one under-the-radar name who could be next to join the Huskers’ 2026 class, as the Huskers look to put the finishing touches on a small, but talented 2026 group. However, the Huskers are well-positioned for a few top 2027 targets and could look to gain further momentum with some top juniors nationally and in-state in the coming weeks.
What Nebraska is getting in Pittman
Standing 6-foot-1, 185lbs, Pittman is a prototypical sized safety, with elite instincts and body control. Playing both sides of the ball for Omaha (Neb.) Central, Pittman shows a high-end understanding feel for space as a wide receiver and in coverage. He’s a well-rounded athlete, with a track background and elite markers as a jumper. He placed fourth in long jump at 2024 USATF National Junior Olympics and has a PR of 23-4.5 in the long jump.
Pittman attacks the ball in air as both a receiver and defensive back. He shows the body control and bounce to high-point the ball consistently, with the hand strength to secure tough catches in traffic and win 50-50 balls. Though he likely projects to safety at the next level, he’s fluid changing directions and has shown the ability to stick in man coverage outside if needed. An active run defender, Pittman explodes downhill and tracks ballcarriers well consistently.
