WATCH: Nebraska football fall camp with Matt Rhule, Emmett Johnson & more
The 2025 Nebraska football season – and Year 3 of the Matt Rhule Era – has officially kicked off.
The Huskers and their head coach finally got things underway on Monday morning with Practice No. 1 of preseason training camp.
The media was allotted a 20-minute open window to view practice, which offered Inside Nebraska an opportunity to snag five observations that stood out. Some of the highlights included Carter Nelson showcasing his physical stature and growth, Gunnar Gottula and the Husker offensive line, the quarterback work led by Dylan Raiola and offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen – in addition to quarterbacks coach Glenn Thomas – and new punter Archie Wilson showing off his leg.

Following practice, Rhule and a host of Nebraska players took to the podium to discuss the Huskers’ progress thus far following the offseason – which featured an intense season of spring ball, summer workouts and plenty more.
Rhule spoke first, followed by Husker running back Emmett Johnson, tight end Luke Lindenmeyer and defensive lineman Cam Lenhardt.
Rhule’s press conference time at podium inside the Hawks Championship Center included him rattling off a bevy of players who are dealing with injuries. That list includes true freshman defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson and true freshman offensive lineman Juju Marks – who are both out after undergoing surgery – plus several more on the Nebraska roster.
Watch the press conference videos below to hear the entire list and to hear Rhule’s comments in full – in addition to hearing from Johnson, Lindenmeyer and Lenhardt.
Monday’s post-practice press conference videos with Rhule and the players are also available to watch on the Inside Nebraska YouTube channel.
